Search for Foster Youth Programs
Campuses across the state have programs specifically for foster youth.

Foster youth support programs go by various names including NextUp, Guardian Scholars, Renaissance Scholars, or others. These programs can include peer advisors and personal counselors and can provide academic advising, housing assistance, tutoring, mentoring, financial assistance, special accommodations for students with disabilities, counseling, social activities, and many other resources.

John Burton Advocates for Youth maintains a database of all campuses in California with a program specifically for foster youth:

Graduate School: Foster youth seeking assistance with enrolling in graduate school can get support through the Graduate School Pathways Program (GSPP) through Ready to Succeed, which offers those impacted by the foster care system comprehensive support to pursue graduate education. This program combines academic guidance, personalized coaching, and financial support to ensure students feel prepared and empowered on their graduate school journey.

Out of State

For students planning to attend college outside of California, there may be a foster youth support program available. Fostering Success Michigan has developed a National Postsecondary Support Map that provides links and information on some 4-year campus-based support programs for students who experience foster care across the United States.
